Baptism

“We thank you, Father, for the water of Baptism. In it we are buried with Christ in his death. By it we share in his resurrection. Through it we are reborn by the Holy Spirit.”

(Holy Baptism, The Book of Common Prayer, p. 306)

The sacrament of Holy Baptism establishes who we are and whose we are.

Holy Baptism is full initiation by water and the Holy Spirit into Christ’s Body, the Church. In Baptism, our sins are forgiven and we are claimed as God’s own children. The bond which God establishes in Baptism is indissoluble.

In Baptism, we promise (or have Godparents and Sponsors promise on our behalf) to love and serve God by proclaiming with our words and in our lives the Good News of God in Jesus Christ.
