The Christ Church History Club has seen a revival in 2025. A group of parishioners met in October to discuss how to continue to research Christ Church’s past and archive Christ Church’s present for future generations. Our group is grateful for the work of several parishioners who in previous decades unearthed much of what we know about the church’s history. For many years, parishioner John Ward spearheaded efforts to enlighten the parish on its history. He and a small group spent time looking at archival records, researching the original 1821 membership list, and working to share valuable historical information with the parish at Sunday morning adult education programs. In 2010 and 2013, parishioner Charlie Blunt edited a collection of early parish records (with easy-to-read type!). Charlie’s work is an immensely valuable contribution to historical research. Lynn Hoke, the diocesan archivist and The Rev. Brooks Graebner, our diocesan historiographer, have also been helpful to our work . . . pointing us in the right direction and sending us interesting articles relevant to Christ Church’s history. Our parish has also benefited from the decision to turn over to the NC Department of Archives and History the vast majority of Christ Church’s documented past, including parish minutes, photographs and other records. Housing our precious collection in a secure, climate-controlled library ensures the preservation of our precious history for generations to come.
